What happens when you press the Z or R button twice? Join us as we take a look into the gaming meme that got the Internet spinning and tumbling!
Ah man I LOVE StarFox 64. Best N64 game EVER made. And yes I still do lots of... well I think you know whats.
@WCK619 Alrighty =] If it's not your cup of tea feel free to avoid them.
@tempertress no offense but if people are interested in finding out more about memes they go to KnowYourMeme or OhInternet or EncyclopediaDramatic or youtube videos that all explain them in much finer detail.
@WCK619 I do many other features and video contributions apart from Gaming Meme History. This is for people who are interested in finding out more about memes.
why do I have a feeling these "Gaming Meme History" segments were added purely so Gamespot could give a pretty girl a job? These memes are old, this segment is delivered with minimal humor, and KnowYourMeme far outweighs it in journalistic detailed documenting.
Could you be more sexist?
I don't see any of the other GS staff doing anything more than Jess is doing here.
@WCK619 They were in a meeting and the girl wouldnt stop asking, whats that thing you guys say? do a barrel roll? i dont get it. (thats what she said)
@WCK619 I personally like the segment, and even if they did add this to give her a job, good for her for. She must be smart and talented in order for the site to make a new segment for her. It doesn't have to be humorous, it's history.
My favourite reference to this has got to be in the game Apache Air Assault, where there is an Achievement / Trophy called "Peppy's Request", which you get for doing you know what.
I love gaming. What other industry can make simple phrases so popular? "It's dangerous to go alone........DO A BARREL ROLL!"
HAHAHAHA....that's still very funny!! Will have to clean the dust from my N64 just to see the original in action!!
@cayne_phoenix @gix47 But how will I do my thoughtful face? Also turning my head prevents my hair from falling but but just for you guys I'll pin it back next time, okay? @ShadowofSonic I'm just super invested in this chick's videos ;) @crushbrain There are some pretty good ones! I like. @Unfallen_Satan Thanks!
Starfox 64 is one of my favorite games of all time, but I never imagined "Do a barrel roll" as an internet meme back in the day. I always thought Slippy, Falco, and Star Wolf's team were more memorable. Ah, groupthink.
does she do a video without that hair falling down one side of her head? or turning her head just ever so slightly to right (left as the case maybe)...?
Oftentimes people forget the game where barrel rolls became famous. It was a N64 game called Starfox 64.
Never really thought of "Do a barrel roll" as being a meme. It's not like Starfox 64 has the market cornered on the concept...
@endorbr No, Starfox 64 didn't corner the market on the concept. Instead it cornered the market on incessantly ordering pilots to perform the maneuver. That damned rabbit just wouldn't stop saying it no matter how often you demonstrated that you were aware of and could perform the (in-game) defensive trick.
And yes, I know it's been almost a year, but no one has pointed out just how annoying (and therefore meme-orable) that little pop-up is in the game.
