I was told there'd be cake. The cake is a lie...or is it? Jess McDonell investigates the history of Portal's famous baked treat in Gaming Meme 101!
I don't care what anyone says,I love that meme.I love that game, and I love the song at the end. I don't mind the cake references. You just have to be careful not to use it to death.
I, for one, like this meme. I agree, however, that when a gazillion people all like the same thing, it can get way overused and turn into something very annoying.
This is the only thing wrong with the original portal. Never have I seen anything blown so out of proportion or become as ridiculously annoying as "LOL THE CAKE IS A LIE".
@aus_pride Ouch! Label me a typical American then, as I honestly can't tell the difference.
So well done for clearing that up gamespot, er yes that's sarcasm, Iv completed Portal 2 but never ever heard the "cake is a lie" phrase or seen it illuded to in any way since playing the game. Hmmm...
The cakes not a lie....Its not a conspiracy. There is a website that says it http://www.thecakeisnotalie.com/ (please gamespot moderators this is not a spam)............ (I found that website after seeing this video By just typing it with no info :P)
The cake isn't a lie, I was going to eat it, but then took an arrow to the knee, luckily Marauder Shields saved me.
*insert summarily non-witty and overly complex sarcastic comment mocking "The Cake Is A Lie" here* :P
Talk about LMAO! They said there was going to be cake, and then there wasn't? Some epic memery, FTW (for the win)! Mayhaps next time you could cover some of the epic lolz to be found in hilarious memes like "An Arrow to the Knee" (Skyrim) or "Shoot Me in the Head With a Murder Bullet Because Human Beings Genuinely, Sincerely Get Paid to Create Content Like This Video in the Year 2012" (Real Life).
Pretty young lady with an lovely accent. As an old gamer with a Texan drawl, I'm a sucker for British girl's accents. In this case, the cake isn't a lie.
@Brisingamen I know!! I don't know why. I only just starting this video gig, still getting used to the camera stuff I suppose. @Baudrillard85 That's the internet, my friend =P I do appreciate people debating the content lol. @oldschoolvandal It's game memes throughout the ages! @SeptuagintXXX God, I hope not. @Taffelost Old people play games too. Possibly also helpful for children. @ThAdEa82 I LOVE this. Favourite movie. @enzyme36 I watch South Park every week. @hasancakir Thanks! @contentxcontext I originally included that Mario bit! But then I took it out. Glad you guys caught it anyway.
her voice definitly changes when she is in front of the camera vs just in front of a microphone, she is very animated and there is nothing wrong with that, or an article about spoofed game art.
BF3, find all dinosaurs the general promised cake, thats what some papers sayed laying around in wake island
Man, why are so many people commenting on the host herself? Why don't, say, Chris Watters or the Bluffer's Guide guy get similar comments? I somehow doubt she went through the whole process of getting hired by Gamespot and making this video just so we could confirm every stereotype about gamers by debating her attractiveness.
Wait a minute.... I thought the meme 101 was about all the Fus Ro Dah videos... Either GS does not keep track of the name of their videos or I'm mixing things up... :)
