Kevin VanOrd dispenses lightsaber justice in this video review for Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Poor game :/ , and dying, they make free to play FAKE model even to survive longer, but its impossible people not stupid to play FAKE f2p where everything is locked even movement and every small things, never support LIARS! Sad they made dying crap!
I think this game is great!!! Especially if you play it with some IRL friends. I have been playing since january and I'm not even considering stopping anytime soon. SWTOR has become the only game I play, simply because it is so time consuming. However days, weeks and even months can go by between me loggin in - Adult responsibillities come in the way of gaming all day and all night all the time. I haven't even reached level 50 yet, even though I'm kida close (two chars at lvl 48). So I feel the game still has a lot to offer me, and I'm not quiting it untill I have at least 5-6 lvl 50's, so at the current rate I'm still playing this two years from now.
After playing this F2P after not playing for 7 months, their f2p model is horrible, they are not gonna win back founders, all that is left is blind fanboys, I actually had to change my review to make this a 1, Bio/EA has done nothing to fix PvP, they went from 50 servers to 8, the numbers speak for themselves and those 8 i noticed aren't excately hopping either, I play on 3 different of those servers and it seems like mostly everyone is hanging around at fleet, BORING and this review was pretty accurate, there is nothing special about it, I think he had to try really hard to make it sound interesting.
About the only thing he didn't have to make sound interesting was the world and the attention to detail with broken speeders ot walkers laying around was well done, about the only guy I would let keep his job from this crew. I did like the companions myself, but that is not enough for a pvp guy like myself to ever subscribe to the game, the pve got old quickly, there where times when I'm like how much longer do I need to be on this planet, jesus sometimes it just seems to drag on and not in a good way. I found the cutscenes to be boring and the story I wasn't even remotely interested in, and I'm a huge starwars fan, but something about this game wasn't right from the beginning
@boomer0901 i understand with youre point... this is for the ' how long do i have to be on this planet', ill give you a tip... use up 1 day of playing the game to focus on just warzones/flashpoints/heroics. Level up at least 2 levels higher then youre enemys and ull get through quick and easy like me. I got 14 characters including 1 level 32 consular (im not an subscriber, only got 2 accounts). Yeah im a pritty big fan my self for star wars, but this one in my opinion is one of the best ones out there, top 3 are SWTOR, SWKOTOR 2, SW jedi knight jedi academy
I already have several lv 50's I was a founder/sub at the beginning of the game, as far as "how long on this planet" let me know after you've done the same quests on Taris 5 times, there is no creativity in this game or uniquesness to each individual character
@boomer0901 also one other negative thing to say abut the game, not many life like reactions during gameplay, i mean for example no blood, u dont put your hand on your stomach or somethin when you make a big ass jump, u cant say something like 'ure going down!' when you are fighting an enemy, also theres only a few basic movements during cutscenes in which u mostly just stand up straight, and definitely HORRIBLE FACIAL EXPRESSIONS, they are the worst... i have never seen my guy/s do anything but just move their eyes as in an evil way or sad way. that is s h i t.
@boomer0901 probably my 2 dislikes abut this game (f2p) is the stupid number of restrictions such as the one where u cant recieve all avaialble mission rewards and the fact that you gain xp REALLY SLOW. By now if i was a subscriber when i started consular id be abut 40
and the only reason I even care is not to hurt bio or EA, but for ppl to not waste there money on a game that is going no where, if you love kotor play 1 and 2 over again if you have too, but don't waste a dime on this unless they start listening to the community or now owner Disney takes over and brings in new devs and managers and actually makes a go of it to try and salvage it.
What a waste. And the male faces turned out to be better than what the trailers showed us, after all. Not so Pixar-esque. But even before, I'd hoped I'd some day try it out. Now, even knowing it'll go F2P by the end of the year, I don't feel so inclined to playing it. This got an 8 last Christmas, but ever more so this feel likes the ice cream certainly flopped onto the ground.
It plain and simply doesn't look fun, not to me. My sole attraction to it is the Star Wars theme, the possibly enjoyable lore and dialog, maybe the sights. The combat looks surprisingly dull, no matter the class. I also do find it rather bothersome that you miss out if you're not extreme light or dark sided.
I'd enjoy rolling dark side, but as in the review's example, I'd probably prefer to spare the former ally rather than being purely sadistic and merciless. That would feel archetypal, cliché, old and trodden. The interesting evil includes spontaneous moments of grace and restraint.
Its F2P future basically nails its coffin, setting in stone that it'll never come close to achieving what milking fetishist EA had hoped when they most certainly had Bioware develop an MMO. How ironic that this would almost certainly be a memorable success as KOTOR was had it been another single player RPG.
Now, the founders and heads of Bioware have resigned and you can put your lingering hopes of recovery in your Recycle Bin. Hell, shift-delete it right away. Neither this nor Bioware will see better days. What a tragic yet perfect example of EA's taint.
EA in itself is a tragedy, a company that presented us many great titles back when we still referred to it as Electronic Arts.
the theme is what got most of us to play this piece of crap believe me, but once that went out the door even the starwars fans like myself left by the thousands, they in no way listened to the community about anything and they paid the price a now dead game. 7 months later nothing has changed, they added fluff and stuff to the game, and of course f2p instead of actually working on anything important other than the money aspect of it, the f2p is horrible as well, you have to buy extended quickbars, more storage space, which believe me what you start out with in no way could you not have to buy more before lv 50, you can only choose 2 out of the 3 crew skills you get, which means you would have to have a lot of help to craft stuff and you get 2 characters max (unless like myself I had 11 toons on 3 different servers, I can play all of them, but can't make a new one without deleting 10 others) You would have to pay to be able to not see your helmet slot, I mean seriously they are basically forcing you to pay more for the game than a monthly subscription.
And if ppl wanted to play the same sh-t from 7 months ago they would still be subbed, so yeah EA played us all on the starwars theme, and I promise you this I will never buy another bio/ea MMO again period, I don't care how good it looks or even if it's a sandbox.
I think that is what pissed most of us starwars fan off the most is that they used the name to lure us in and just slapped us in the face, like I said earlier all that is left is the blind fans that don't seem to the care games sucks, and then you can't even speak your opinion because the hate to speak so little of their fine jewel of a game :) Well I think we all know how blind fanboys are enough said.
I I watched the review again...and I fully agree with your observation.
To you I say, touche`, sir. Touche`.
I think he was trying to sound excited about a blatantly horrible game, I thought he put on a brave face, like so many of us when we started the game, we all that sickening feeling on where this game was going and that is what I caught in his voice.
@Drifter_sion You need to use your words more wisely: monotone describes someone like Ben Stein - a single tone lacking variance (with or without that annoying nasal voice).
@Devils-DIVISION @Drifter_sion strictly your interpretation. He is very monotone (e.g. lacks any inflection in his voice). same person if you ask me. devoid of emotion, bad representative if you ask me; further more my point being, nothing about his voice and mannerism evoke emotion or makes his reviews enjoyable. I shall not watch another of his reviews. just sayin'...
@Drifter_sion Well you don't have to be emotive to avoid being monotone (it helps though). But I must insist, there are changes in his tone throughout, and even vocal inflections at times (this can get very annoying when overdone). He simply cannot be monotone - maybe to you he's emotionless, unenthusiastic etc., but Stein and Kevin have got nothing in common with regard to tone. And one CANNOT argue that Stein isn't monotone, can they?
I don't mind your opinion though, I just disagree with the monotone description - it simply falls flat (see what I did there?).
Having played the game for a month I still haven't been bugged by almost anything he is other then the rigid interface. Also PVP is scaled so that all levels are even stats wise, you just don't have as many abilities as a higher level player even so my level 20 can still decimate a level 37 if I play my cards right. Finally there are actually 8 classes. 4 basic ones and then each basic one has two advanced classes that are completely different.
If you are KOTOR fan, will this be worth playing, I mean, is it deep in story and choices, or is it just a fetching game and combat combat combat just to level up? KOTOR 1 and 2 (esepcially 2) was about choices that ultimatley had impact on inlfuence on other characters.
Everyone will hate me for saying this... but I can't wait for this to come out on mac!
@Thortheus It hasn't yet so it probably wont.
Sorry dude. Now you will have to buy a proper gaming computer.
Cutscene and full voice dialog is all it has. Otherwise it's just another replica of WOW.
ive been playing since day 1 and i think for it only being 3 months old its great! ya it has some issues but the game is brand new. If u play this keep in mind its not polished yet. its still a fantastic game and can only get better! I can only imagine how it will be a year from now.
Space battles are simplistic but a fun change from normal mmo mode questing etc. Main story lines are awesome. Wonder where the legacy stuff is going.
@bayernfan There will be no KOTOR 3 dude, Revan is in this and has a story in it too. There will be no new game in that series. This is the game that will continue that storyline
@jsf2008 They will most likely patch in weathereffects and a day to night cycle. WoW didn't have weathereffects untill almost a year after release.
yea.. he nit picked on all the things there going to change. The game has been out for 3/4 months and its WAY better than 99% of the things on the market.
i had been one of the beta testers of this game (thanks to gamespot for giving us the beta keys for weekend test) however, i couldn't buy this game. One of the reasons is monthly fee i can not afford and the second cause is the very high prices of the game in my country. Its a shame that i couldn't bring the rest.
TOR is not too bad, been holding my attention for 3 days now. Will wait and see if it lasts the week though. Have to say a BIG fail on the 'space'-click battles though. I know some team fought to keep it in the IP but if your gonna do it , do it properly. sigh. @Xandoom Whats an alienware? lol
@Dillinger563 A lot of comments are WAY better than that crappy one. Why is anyone reading it ?
As a gamer who played 5 years of World of Warcraft, I find The Old Republic a refreshing change. If Bioware can keep up the great work, I expect to be playing TOR for a long time...especially (and yes I'm bragging) when i'm playing it on an Alienware (okay I'm done now) @jckwb7 Bioware didn't make Battlefront.
