why was dj hero even there? i thought this was ORIGINAL music and yeah bfbc2 should have definatly been there.

OMG...This one is really hard... (sarcasm) DJ Hero 2 not. Nier's music reminds me of other games. RDR has great music SMG2 is just too childish Super Meat Boy is not original at all. So RDR wins for sure. However, I think ME2, BFBC2 and others should have been here too, as most nominated games here don't belong here at all.

I said that what's epic for you may not be epic for a lot of other gamers (the possible majority of them, in fact). Super Metroid features one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. I have the Ancient Ruins Area of the 3rd game's sountrack marked on my favorites (and that's a GREAT example of how to make choirs really menacing and atmospheric). Now, look: Mario was nominated for Game of the Year, wasn't it? Well, it was and I do not oppose that. Because Super Mario Galaxy 2 is one of the best platformers of the year, indeed fulllfilling with sucess the majority of its purposes. Having this game representing the platforming genre at the nominees is something more than right. As well as Toy Story representing the animations at the Oscar. My issue here is mainly about the soundtrack of the game, wich, in my humble opinion, doesn't deserve a nomination in the 1st list because it's childish and uninspired (except for...you know who). And, particularly, when I read your comment saying that "if anything else wins it's a crime", you really managed to get my attention by simply writing something that I could only assume it was fanboyish or childish. By the course of the debate, I made my mind. Finally, if Mario were a bloodshedding, overly masculine ancient warrior/space marine, his name would be poorly chosen.

You seem to not see a score as epic simply because it IS Nintendo. I suppose you think Toy Story also shouldn't even be considered for best picture nomination because it appeals to kids and is animated? @SloganYams Oh, I'm the fanboy? Really? Because I'm not the one saying that concepts only reasonable for Nintendo (ahem)fanboys are truly epic. And you can call that soundtrack everything BUT menacing. I think I wouldn't find it menacing even if I was a Nintendo (ahem)fanboy. To say something like that is, in my humble opinion, an autentic certificate of ultra-hardcore fanboyism beyond my 13-year-old brain comprehension. And everyone, except (ahem)fanboys are tired from Bowser being the last boss (this is because the kids generally don't even know his name). I really think that he can be recycled in some interesting ways ("Bowser's Inside History" for instance), but seeing his face at the end of every Mario game is overkill from the producers. I can't say it's a mistake, though, because there'll be always (ahem)fanboys to purchase them and overrate them. After this, I've nothing more to say, unless that I share your point of view about "One-Winged Angel". And the feeling of watching an ending like Halo's with an soundtrack like Halo's (that insn't uniformly good, but is far more beautifull than Mario's) is something that your 7-year-old-brain simply cannot understand (I must admit that your argumentation is pretty good for someone at this age, though). Enjoy your Mario and thanks for the demonstration that this kind of fanboyism is really something impressive. I mean, I've heard and seen a lot about it, but it's the first time that I'm really having direct contact.

@Dreamagus Well that comment was downright ignorant. Yes, a lot of video games use choirs, that doesn't mean they all do it right (take the impossibly overrated One-Winged Angel for example). But the Bowser themes of Galaxy 2 were genuinely menacing. Of course you fight Bowser in every game, he's the villain of the series. He wouldn't be a very good series villain if he didn't keep showing up now would he? The fact that Nintendo can still give a sense of "epicness" for a villain we've beaten time and time again is a testament to the quality of their designs. And I wouldn't say John Williams is more original per se. The soundtrack for Minority Report was incredibly bland. And a laughable video game score would be something more like Halo, which takes itself far too seriously. Galaxy 2 practically gives you a sense of joy at every turn. While most of the other scores here just try too dang hard, Galaxy 2 actually succeeds in creating classic music of it's own. And it's far more versatile. But my words are falling on def, ignorant, fanboyish ears.

@SloganYams Ok now, the only emotion that the Bowser's final battle soundtrack evoked on me was "laugh". I mean, it's not necessarily bad (much less funny), but come on, that "erudite choir for last boss fight" is one of the oldest tricks of games' soundtrack composers. In Galaxy 2 it's only emotional for Mario fans, because they really belive that fighting the same last boss for every freakin' game is still epic after countless times. And there are two factors that are enough to differ John Williams' work from Galaxy 2's soundtrack in every conceivabel way: 1- It's more original. 2- It can be taken seriously.

@Dreamagus Considering most of the music in Galaxy 2 is entirely original (I think a total of five tracks are returning), things such as nostalgia play no part in it. Galaxy 2's soundtrack is, simply, sweeping. The Bowser boss battle music is nothing short of epic (I mean that in the literal sense, not as in "cool"), and the Melty Monster Galaxy theme evokes raw power. Galaxy 2's soundtrack is brimming with John Williams and Joe Hisaisi-esque levels of of power and beauty (respectively), but is entirely it's own. I never said the other games' scores were criminal, but I can't imagine anything other than Galaxy 2 winning for 2010. @Briggins14 Dude, you're right! FFXIII was a great soundtrack. It's final boss music was so much better than the self-important One-Winged Angel we never hear the end of.

@SloganYams It's only emotional for two kind of people: 1 - The ones who've played (and liked, most importantly) the various other famous Mario titles and can remember, through the soundtrack of this game, all the evolution of the series since the older generations (since even some tracks of this game are renewed versions of older tracks - something that have a GREAT impact over the loyal fans). 2 - Kids. I though you were on the second category because of the apparent incapacity in recognizing the necessary conditions for Galaxy's soundtrack victory. I mean, it's a "triumph in music" for Mario and overall Nintendo fans, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the rest of the gamers are all criminals.

*sigh* once again FFXIII gets no recognition for its amazing soundtrack.

@Dreamagus Super Mario Galaxy 2's soundtrack is no more for kids than The Lord of the Rings'. It is a triumph in music. While the other games here have great soundtracks in their own right (though I don't see what made Red Dead's so "special" per se), Galaxy 2's is by far the most emotional.

I've figured out for myself...with my "13-years-old brain" Moreover, stop puting words in my mouth. Nintendo isn't for kids (well, it is, but not ONLY for kids). Super Mario Galaxy 2's soundtrack is. And I'm voting for NIER on this category, because I really BELIEVE that it's soundtrack is better than any other of the list (even RDR's)
