So i beat the main quest line and I ahve held off on doing any of the theives guild or DB quests until I made another player who could fit the skills better.  Now that I have dawnguard I want to also do the vampire track with this player but I am wondering if you have to be at a point on the main quest or at a specific level?  I heard that you also have to have the elder scroll from the main quest, is that true as well?  when I looked at the quests that were avaible for Dawngaurd I saw that you have to find 3 elder scrolls, do you have to find the scroll in the main wuest line, or are there 3 new scrolls to find?

From what I've experienced you need to be at level 10 to be able to get the quests from the city guards or from rumors, though you could just travel to the Dawnguard Fort near Riften anytime you wanted to I guess. And you were correct about the scrolls, as there is the one from the main quest and 2 new ones that are added. The quest to get the Elder Scroll from the main game is the same as you do in the main quest if you hadn't recovered it yet, so you can kinda kill 2 birds with one stone there if you wanted to.

Also in my personal opinion you could just do the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild with the current character, as it doesn't really hurt the quests that much if you are not a stealth master.
