Character Creation - Did I make a mistake?

Hi Skyrimers!
It's me, again!!
I have just begun the game and I've opted to follow the guard and I was attacked by giant red spiders but anyway, my question is, I have chosen to go with a WOOD ELF and I was wondering if I'd make a mistake going with this particular class/race? Should I have chosen another race instead?
Which race would have been the smartest choice for me? (keeping in mind I know nothing of Elder Scrolls) My wood elf does have poison and disease resistance though, so I guess that's something, right?......right?!?!?
Any opinions?

Any race can be good at anything (except unarmed combat). Picking wood elf is fine.

Depends. If you have no preference over dialogue or racial traits then I would recommend High Elf, as you get the equilivent of 5 levels of magicka (permanent fortify 50 points of magicka).
If you wish to persue the game as a vampire then I recommend Dark Elf for their 50% resistance to fire.
Most races have decent benefits. I would have said Wood Elf was the weakest, but you can always survive a cat surprise early thanks to their racial ability.

*slaps forehead* I was worried this was going to happen. But I'm only at level 1, I think I may have to restart the game as a higher elf. *doh!!!*

Have fun and ONLY come back here with a real problem.
ALSO!!! save many files, more than 5 and fairly frequently rotate them. If you have a problem (that's not related to being a woodelf) we'll fix it better that way. :p

Shame on you Dtothe for even mentioning a vampire. Tha'ts WAY advanced, and NOT for the first -third playthrough, and not worth it anyway. :p

Really, being a wood elf is fine. Even when I play mage characters I don't go for high elves. That extra magicka isn't really all that needed.
Just play whatever race you want. As I said, any race can be good at anything so I typically go for aesthetics when choosing my race. If you want to play as a wood elf then do it. Seriously, it won't make that much of an impact on your game.

Players are a little disappointed in werewolves :p
AND don't give me your "level 1 beat the game crap" Been there done that WITHOUT BEAST FORM... At least enough to know it's easier. :p
It's a cop out at low levels, and once you DO level, they're like puppies. You know this.
