I played KOFXI and it was rather fun that was the last KOF i played how ever, So i'm wondering if this game is really worth getting? also is the character customization just as fun as in XI?

If you've ever played Freeman from Garou: Mark of the Wolves, that's what this new Iori is like. He lost his flames from XI in the story, and is after Ash to get them back. With no flames, he's got a bigger concentration on slashing and in-your-face attacks. I honestly like this version better as he plays so different from any Kyo form. Compared to EX(98)Iori, XIII Iori has a bigger damage output, so there are pros and cons to each Iori.
I'd say give new Iori a chance, but EX Iori is in great form like usual.
And to answer your first question, the game is worth getting. Very balanced, great systems use, varied characters, great visuals, etc. Compared to XI, the tag part of the game is missing here, but hopefully that will be in the next one somehow, lots of extra modes to get into, and customization is even better than what XI had; you can see some of the crazy color schemes people made here, on DreamCancel, on SRK, etc.

I avoided XII, so I can't speak to that, but as a very long time fan of the series, this is the worst KoF ever. So bad, it's even worse than '99. Everyone feels gimped and their move lists are really slim. The new Iori is terrible, but it's what you're stuck with unless you want to shell out money for the other version even though it's on the disk.
The character graphics are a personal preference, but in my opinion they're hideous. The style is very different from what it used to be and barely even looks like King of Fighters to me. They basically look like Falcoon's renditions of the characters, but turned into ugly sprites. The backgrounds have little to no parallax scrolling of any kind, just a flat backdrop with no depth.
You will get much more positive opinions I am sure, but in my opinion as someone for whom KoF has been my favorite fighting game series for over 15 years now I think it's an absolute disaster.

Opinions do vary I guess. If you haven't tried it yet, there still might be a demo for XIII available, so you can try it out for yourself a bit.

For me it's the complete opposite. As someone who has been playing KoF for over 15 years, I think it's one of the best looking 2d fighters today. I've never played XII so I don't know how that was, but I think XIII is great.
Only gripe is maybe the character roster. Wish there were more favorites of mine, but that's just my personal preference.

I've played all the major 2D Kofs except 2 (one including KofXI) and have to say this one is the best. It gives you even more freedom of what to do which Kof is already known for. The Drive Gauge really opens up the options in a fight. It takes a bit to take all the mechanics in but it is great once you get your footing. Plus the Characters look Great! I go back the older Kofs which I still love but feel like I can’t do much at all compared to XIII.
I haven't tried KofXI's color edit and I've heard you can change the "Fire Effect's" colors (I think) but this one is Real Fun! I have spent a Whole lot of time in the Customize section. You can't change the "Fire Effects" and we aren't given a RGB scale to make the colors which at first I wasn't a fan but after a while the method they have in this game feels like the easiest to make things.

This is old school fighting at its finest, i believe no other game of this generation can give you that feeling in such a powerful! way as this one.
It's truly sad it didn't get the attention it deserves, but i feel it's because it's also kinda hard to get into if you are a newcomer or if you just play it casually.
I only scratched but the surface and then stopped playing 'cause the ppl i wanted to play with started to feel like punching bags, no fun for them nor for me.
But then i played it with a KOF hardcore a couple times and he destroyed me!

That's the only real gripe i have with it :
No one will want to play with you because of its complexity BUT if you happen to find someone who's a veteran, then it will feel like if you are just standing there to get beat...
Personally i could solve this problem with some training, but if that guy is the only one i can play with (on very rare occasions) then i don't think it's worth my time n' effort... >_>
