I had high hopes for this game.  Although I know it is just a beta, it was rough in my opinion.  I didn't struggle with bugs or lag.  The gameplay was boring, the story was bland, the characters and animations seem stiff, and the graphics were weak.  That said - you should probably be aware that I liked playing GW2 when the Beta weekend came out.  So, im comparing my experience playing TSW with my experience playing GW2.

 @KoreanShank The game play is limited partly due to you being in the beta and therefore having fewer skills to play with (and all the synergy involved in those) and simpler enemies to encounter.As for you not liking the story...Well, that's a different matter.I think you're probably judging it a bit too soon.After all the story begins 30 000 000 years ago if I don't remember wrong and there's a lot of plot twists and stuff that you won't learn about at once... *shrugs

can someone help me i downloaded the beta and went to the patch installer the last patch was over 10 hours long so i left it to download over night so this morning i got on and launched the game but my computer became unresponsive so i tried to start it up again but i had tp frdownload all the patches please help i really want to play this beta

I like the concept of the game-play, however, there's a catch in that in will take a lot of time playing to acquire enough weapon Attribute Points and Skill Points to enjoy the variety of play-options the game claims. You'll have to chose that first weapon and run quests a lot to fill in its attributes/skills on the "wheel" of choices. That makes certain quests doable and others not so much. I tend to redo quests just to pick up the Attribute Points and Skill Points. The game is new so you can't Google quest spoilers to help speed up your progress.  That will change as more people play and post information about the game. I guess, for me anyway, the game just isn't that much fun at this point.

@hottbluz in one of the other videos the head designer says that it is very easy to get skill and ability points

 @posideon50  @hottbluz It is, but that don't equals getting enough abilities to really make use of all the synergy in a quick way.Or at least not quick enough for some..

I've been playing the game, and it does have promise. All of the issues I have with it so far, are more then likely beta issues. If Funcom cleans SW up nicely it will definitely make it into my PC game collection. :D  I just love the scene.

No.. no its not that far away. I really wanted to like this game because there is a part in me that wanted to see Funcom succeed. I honestly feel they should have almost stuck with their Anarchy Online franchise and just made it more up to date with added features and no advertisements of course ;p. It is sad for me to know that The Secret World did not live up to any expectations I had after playing the beta, well aware it's just that a beta, showed me that it is doomed for failure. Unfortunately, Albaficas is right. After checking it out I will say spare the 11-12 gig download - it's a stink burger ;/ and granted SWTOR is better and the sci-fi mmo style of that game is what makes me miss AO that much more. I'm so sorry Funcom I hope it doesn't set anything back too much.

I really hope this game can pick up a decent sized subscriber base, it's far and away the most original looking MMO on the immediate radar that it would be a shame if it were swamped into non-existance by the (also awesome looking) Guild Wars 2 and (the more of the same ol' same ol' looking) Mists of Pandaria WoW expansion. Given an adequate user base to ensure a vibrant community this could be something special IMHO.

 @Joolsy Head over to the official forum and you'll see that we do have quite a community ;-)And also keep in mind that in this game all players can take part in 2/3rd of all the content at all times with new players still being able to benefit the more experienced ones and end game players still being able to get xp and stuff from "low level" stuff ;-)This means that in a lot of ways it' might be more resilient towards a low population then a lot of other games.But I honestly think that it might be a success given a bit of time :-)After all, people will get tired with all those other games after a while and then TSW will still be there to give them something different to try out ^^

dont know what to think of this game. either they not good at promoteing this game or they got nothing awsome to show off and the game is bad. i got a beta key so its not long untill i find out. as a side note it be awsome if they had cars you can buy and drive.then everone can recreate the the joys of traffic jams in real life to in game :D lmao

 @EG-Mist Nope, no cars, at least not in the immediate future of this game..As for it being good, I do believe so.But it do require a slightly different attitude to playing to fully enjoy it then most other MMOs out there.Also, there's still a lot of placeholders and stuff in there that they haven't exchanged yet and the beta is limited in amount of skills and in areas to explore so you won't get the full experience there...The beta isn't a commercial as much as a stress test.And they're relying on the word of mouth method of advertising the game ;-)(Yes they do think that it's good enough to manage just fine without commercials)

I'll know for sure this weekend, but I have a feeling this game will be unfinished, buggy, and suffer from a lack of content, eventually switching to a free-to-play model, but once a year or so goes by it will be worth taking another look at. That seems to be Funcom's style.

 @sircyrus Well, I honestly don't think the game will lack content or be particularly buggy, but the beta does lack content, it's unfinished and lacks a polish (although it seems like it have fewer bugs then some of the other mmo betas out there).As for the waiting till it's free to play part...That's up to you... *shrugs*Personally I intend to preorder a lifetime sub as soon as  I can afford it.After all, the more resources Funcom get the faster can they get rid of the bugs that are there and start to add new content ;-)

 @Albaficas It's unpolished, but buggy?Sure there's some but the consensus seems to be that it's way less then some of the other betas out there right now...It's more the lack of content and polish in the beta that people are complaining about.(Well, strictly speaking a lot of them say that the game play is boring, but the real reason for that is more likely then not due to a lot of the game play quite simply being locked in the beta and them being limited to what's essentially the Goldshire of TSW)

Got my beta invite the other day, so I'll finally be able to make an informed decision about this one and find out how readily we'll be able to look past the admittedly shoddy character models/animations.

 @sinex1983 Well, the beta being a good basis for a informed decision is something I very much doubt.With the skill system in question, the limitations in locations and the locked skills this is not as fun as the real game once you've played a little I think.But you do get a taste of the game never the less and can see for yourself how different it actually is in the mission department at least ;-)

 @guoital Um, NDA?You're still suppose keep you mouth zipped about anything you see with the closed beta client as well as the fact that you're in it in the first place ;-)(And that NDA is still in place despite there being no NDA on the open beta ;-)Of course if you want to chat about the game to your friends just join the open beta as well, download the client and chat away about anything you see there :-P

Funcom always has the most amazing character and world design, but the final products seem to be sort of... I don't know... they feel like IKEA furniture. Not solidly held together.
