I mostly play RPG and strategy games, and a few other action / adventure games. I've always had a tight budget when it came to my PC, so I had to make do with budget cards. I finally got some money together and decided to buy a decent GPU for once. I'm tired of playing games with most of the settings turned to low / medium, AA turned off, and even then at low FPS. *sigh*

Anyway, my budget is still not VERY high, as I have to buy a new PSU with the GPU as well. I'm looking at 6850 or 7770 (yes, I have a slight inclination towards ATI, but I'm welcome to nVidia suggestions as well). Can you please suggest cards in that range?

    tl;dr-

I have played Wtcher 2 on my ATI HD 6670. It ran on medium-low. I'm aiming for a card that can run Witcher 2 on high (without ubersampling). Any suggestions?

I can provide the rest of my spec, if needed. Thanks.

Do you mean 6950? My 6870 was only 150 and it came with Deus Ex, seems like more of a value card even if it's a good value.
    30% Cow, 30% Sheep, 30% Hermit, 10% Lemming

I don't know much about ATI cards but I have a Nvidia Geforce GTX 460 and I can run on high settings. It chugs at certain spots but overall its very playable, 30fps. Get an ATI card that is equal or greater than the Geforce GTX 460 (currently around $150) and you should be good. In case you were curious Nvidia has a site where it tells you optimal settings for certain games like the Witcher 2 based on the video card you have. So if you were thinking about getting something like say the GTX 560 you could pick the video card and then check out the average fps it could pump out for the Witcher 2 at 1080p. http://www.geforce.com/optimize

    I got GTX 560 Titanium - TW2 runs fine.

6950 runs it very well, so if you want something like the 6850 it should be just fine. They look pretty affordable too.

No, no, I meant 6850. It's hard living in a third world country, mate. :/

If GTX 460 can run it well, I guess 6850 will be fine for now. I consulted a few sites, and 6850 seems slightly better than GTX 460. I can't afford a new card in next 2 years, at least.

Um.... thought I'd mention.... I play at 1440 x 900. My RAM is 4 GB DDR2 (yah, I know), and the processor is AMD x4. Can't remember the specifics at the moment (not at home, typing from phone).

Yeah I was about to ask what your resolution was. A 6850 should be adequate provided you disable ubersampling, possibly ssao as well.

I personally have a 6850 and run this game. I can play on pretty high settings save ubersampling and a few others, think shadows set to normal. The frames are alright, but un overclocked the game can go down to 40s or so, with the over clock it stays up at high 40s to 60 all the time
