Ubi, why you make me sad?
Hello guys, I don't usually write about my feelings for games, movies or whatever product I did or didn't enjoy, but now something that I really loved and wanted to see develop further left me with feelings of sadness and anger. I'm talking about the new title in the Splinter Cell franchise- Splinter Cell: Black list. I will start with Sam- Sam was the main reason I loved the Splinter Cell games. First thing that bugs me out about the new Sam is that Michael Ironside is not doing the voice acting. Michael Ironsede has a great, unforgettable voice. Sam was the quiet, strong character and whenever he started talking I was forced to stop whatever I was doing and start listening. He/I was the predator, waiting in the shadows with patience, planning his/mine next move. Even today, that makes me feel like aprofessional, making every kill personal. What I saw from the game-play and the debut trailer was an action running and gunning Sam... That doesn't make sense, he was a "wise" killer. Now he is an old agent, his hair is silver, he is old... why would they make him an action movie- super hero. This is not a prequel, it's a sequel, it's not logical that he is old and that's not all- he is in charge now, how come he's on the front line?
Let us leave that for a moment, lets talk about the game-play that we saw. Why do Ubi want... my bad don't want us to play the game instead of sitting in front of the monitor or the TV and watching the game mechanics do all the playing for us. He's automatically killing and hiding the bodies. Marking and executing three guys isn't fun, it doesn't make me feel like a professional or a good gamer, back in the days we called that auto-aiming and it was considered cheating. I don't want to play against blind enemies. Ubi, guys, it's not fun to watch someone or something else play the game for you, not everyone finds running and gunning fun. Your colleagues already made one tactic franchise feel like a Hollywood movie, don't do this to Splinter Cell. We... no, not we, I want, I like, I need to feel like a professional, I want that up close and personal execution, I like the sneaking, I really don't have the nerve to run and gun.
Thank you for reading this article, hope I'm not the only one who feels that way about Splinter Cell, I know that this article won't change much but still. Have a nice day!
