All the cheese was gone! That's all that ran through my mind as I made my way to work on the bus and over-crowded subway. Never mind that it was the worst downpour of the year and two-days after Christmas.

We had tuna melts, or, as my girlfriend and her daughter promptly corrected me, tuna delights the night before. My arguments that they're one and the same fell on stubborn ears. It was me vs. the world.

From my perspective, tuna melts and tuna delights are the same thing. Maybe even that tuna delights are derived from the tuna melt. When I was a kid, tuna melts were open faced, on slices of bread with tuna mixed with mayo, an optional slice of tomato, and a slice of American-Cheese. The major difference in the tuna delight is that it's on an English-muffin.

According to the other four people sitting at the dinner table, the differences between the two sandwiches were quite obvious. They claimed the tuna melt was closed and grilled like a grilled cheese, while the tuna delights are opened face. My call of shenanigans was futile. Even our house guest was proven a Judas when it turned out he was just humoring me! However, their lack of proof let me retreat to the shadows and exact my vengeance.

I digress. Back to the cheese. It was all gone! My sandwich for lunch that day would just be ham and mustard! Never mind that the house would soon be afloat!

Then I got an idea. Indeed, there was a way for me to compensate for the lack of American-Cheese. In the refrigerator there was a spread. Not just any spread, but Acme's Alaskan Smoked Salmon spread! Such revered things are talked about in whispers and hushed-code in our house.

There were even onion bagels on the counter. Huzzah! My taste buds would end up satisfied after all.

My good mood wasn't meant to last. SWithin the 30 seconds it took me to leave the house to get to the bus-stop, I was soaked. Luckily the bus was headed up the street when I get there. Dripping, I slumped down in my seat on the bus and grumbled to myself All the damn cheese is gone!

A cheese-less house. The horror of this story has shocked me into going to the store on the way home today to make sure this same thing does not happen to me!

I can't say I've ever had the open face but I have heard of it. I am however quite familiar with the closed version. In my house it was called a tuna buccaneer I'm not sure if that was my mom's name for it or if it came from somewhere else but they are damn good. The way we made them was you would make it just like a tuna sandwich by whipping in mayo except I wouldn't put as much, lemon pepper and dill spice,  put it on a hamburger bun topped with a slice of cheese, my wife likes shredded cheese for some odd reason I despise that, you then put on the top bun wrap in tin foil and put in the over for a while. I love tuna and that has been one my favorite quick snacks for a long time. I would agree that I would consider a tuna melt and a delight two separate things as to me a delight is more like deluxe meaning more fancy somehow which maybe the English muffin would represent but it is pretty much the same thing either way.

I have had both variations and I can say the closed sandwich was way better, hands down. Maybe it's because it was made by a friend who practically specialized in making them. Speaking of tuna, I have a friend whose go to meal in a pinch or when broke is a tuna s-wich, ramen, and green beans. Haven't tried it myself, so I won't knock it. I have a meal I bring for lunch sometimes that's 2 tacos from one of the local mexican places, and a cup of ramen noodles(the shrimp one preffered). Strangely good combo.

@Bad_Gamers83 Yeah the soundtrack is incredible... Too bad I can't say the same about the storyline because of the way it ended, it really saddens me. But well, you might like it more than others, you never know, plus, it's probably really cheap now.

Awesome read. Articles like this need to be more frequent, theres no flame wars, no "im right your wrong" opinion based battles, theres just a story about a man and his quest for a good sammich.

Sweet baby ray's, hot sauce, onions, cheese.  If you have these you can eat any food invention the woman comes up with.  My 2 cents.

This isn't exactly an editorial.  You're free to write about whatever you want, but an editorial here should at least try to stick to something video game related...

@JustPlainLucas Fair enough. I just wanted to share a funny story, but you're right.

I know next to nothing about tuna sandwiches, but I do know that when there's no cheese, there's no hope.

I really don't bloody care what the damned thing is called, as long as it tastes good. If it's good, I name it after myself. You had a Starduke Tuna Surprise #2, the surprise in the #2 being that it actually has tuna.

A melt is a sammich with cheese placed on top and allowed to "melt" as you grill it. I can be served open-faced or not. Also, the type of bread is irrelevant. The "tuna melt" is typically tuna mixed with mayo, tomato and cheese on top.

Tuna "delight" is an offspring of the traditional "melt", or rather a hybridization. The primary difference being the tuna part. Tuna "delight" is a mixture of ingredients with tuna as the primary, sort of like "chicken salad sandwich" or "egg salad sandwich". My favorite preparation is chopped celery and apple mixed in with the tuna/mayo and topped with shredded cheese. In fact, upon using the 'ol Goog "Tuna delight" returned casserole dishes, and nary a sandwich recipe to be found. So there.

But that's all my humble opinion.

I'm not a huge tuna fan, it depends on the bread, you know?  I do love cheese, though :)

So you went to a video game site to argue the difference between a tuna sandwich thing and another tuna sandwich thing?  Isn't facebook more of the springboard for conversations that don't need to exist?

@Shmoe82 Don't ever click the Fuse link or most forum threads here on GS. You'd have such a huge hissy fit you might explode once you discover all of the pointless non-gaming content on this site.

@Shmoe82  Why not just let people write whatever the heck they want on their own blogs and stick to dictating the content of your own writing?
