    The inevitable approaches...

...and that is me leaving Gamespot!

As some of you probably know,I'm in a strong disagreement with most of the site policies lately introduced, which made me spend less and less time here,I don't comment on the news articles anymore, just skim through some blogs, and ocassionaly make a few forum posts...

    However,few days ago,I think I found myself a new community for myself:OCN

I've been a member for a few days now,and I'm already very impressed. The community is very well organized and maintained, the overall attitude in most of the forum is very level-headed and professional, the site is very stable, and I still haven't experienced any issues or glitches. It feels light years ahead of GS in its functionality...

The site is obviously geared heavily towards PC enthusiasts(though there are some console gamers around the site),so the focus is heavily on hardware discussions, but there are still news sections constantly updated about gaming,so I guess I can still easily stay in touch with the latest stuff, which is a big plus.Anyway,my stay there simply eliminates most of the reasons I have to visit GS...

I'll probably still stick around here a little to stay in touch with some of my friends, but my GS time is becoming more and more limited with each day.At this rate, won't be long before I fully drift away from the site...

    My new MP game...

As some of you probably know,I'm mostly an SP gamer, very rarely playing on-line...

    But ocassionaly,I still need my on-line MP fix,and so far,my MP games were CoD4,MW2,Bad Company 2,and BF2...

Today, though,I found something new,and that is Quake Live.

It's an F2P browser game, based on Quake 3 Arena, with some slight changes, like smaller gore level, which means there is less blood and body pieces flying around than in the original,so that the game can keep the T rating. But that's minor stuff, the game still remains very fast-paced and responsive, fully preserving that original Quake feel, much loved among PC gamers. It's great, and serves as a great reminder of LAN parties I had with my friends many years ago, when I was learning how to play on the PC.And BTW,Quake 3 Arena(demo) was the first "real" PC game I ever played...

    Anyway,if someone here's into Quake,and up for some old-school MP stuff,PM me

And just to mention,on my regular SP side of gaming, atm I'm going through the Penumbra Collection,a pack of horror games made by Frictional Games,an indie dev today well known for Amnesia, and soon,A Machine for Pigs...

The pack contains all 3 Penumbra games, and for now,I only completed Penumbra Overture. It wasn't as scary as I hoped for,but was still a good(if somewhat flawed and clumsy) horror experience, much better than most of the "horror" stuff we get today.Started the Black Plague,Overture's sequel, which is supposedly more scary, though I don't know yet, barely played it for 10 minutes. We'll see how well it holds up to Amnesia and Cry of Fear,my fav horror games...

    A new GPU,finally!

Last week, after many second-thoughts,I finally got myself a replacement for my dead 580GTX...

I bought an Asus 670GTX DirectCu,but before that,I was considering MSI or Asus 680GTX.In the end,I decided 680GTX isn't worth it the money asked, since 670GTX is much cheaper, and almost equally powerful...

Anyway, this card is great, runs at great temps, and is very quiet, even after I set up a more agressive fan profile, after all,we're dealing with DirectCU cooler, which is well known for its quality and performance. It came @915Mhz factory core clock, but I overclocked it @1025Mhz,and will go to 1050Mhz,maybe even higher,in a few days.Probably will OC the memory clocks too.At it's current clocks,it already works slightly faster than a reference 680GTX,which is awesome, but if I can get more out of it,why not?

Its great being able to play games again, and that's the main reason why I wrote this blog a week after the card was installed,I was enjoying my time. Finally,if anyone is considering a new GPU purchase, and has a larger budget, this Asus 670GTX is easily the card to get.Now I know well why Techpowerup gave it a 10/10.Well deserved, easily by far the best GPU I've ever used.Would also add that using it really helps with the guilt of killing my last card

EDIT:Reached 1050Mhz,while also for the first time the temps reached 80C in EVGA OC Scanner stress test. Here's the GPU-Z shot:

    I wonder,should I push towards 1075Mhz?

I want to,but somehow,I have a really bad feeling about it.Probably nothing, but maybe it would be for the best to leave it alone for now...
