  Review: Game Industry Prediction for 2007

  Let's review this blog below I posted an year ago, BOLDED are the ones I got right:

  By the end of 2007, worldwide sale of console will be Xbox 360 (19 Million), Wii (18 Million), PS3 (9 Million)

  Halo 3 will be the biggest selling game for a single platform, and Grand Theft Auto IV will be the biggest selling game overall.

  Game of the Year will be between : Spore, Super Mario Galaxy, and Halo 3.

  More PS3 and 360 exclusivegames will go multiplatform : Virtua Fighter 5, Tekken 6, Lost Planet, Mercernaries, Gundam Warriors

  Next wave of Wii games will look much better than what we are seeing now, as developersnow have time to polish up the graphics after they are finished with theirwarm upon the control.

  Xbox 360 price will have $100 price drop on each configuration (around May), and Wii will go down to $199 without Wii Sports pack-in (September).

  New PSP with harddrive will be announced, with the current price tag. And the old version will have $50 drop. DS Lite will drop to $99 and it will sell like crazy.

  Prepare to see a lot of PS2-PSP-Wii ports. At first we will see a lot of PS2 to Wii ports, but later on we will see Wii to PS2 ports instead.

  After Lost Odyssey released in Japan, X360 will be be finished over there.

  Lots of homebrew online games will be available for the Wii opera browser and it will become very popular.

  More intesting channels for Wii that incorporated with games (like the current Mii and Forecast Channel). Xbox Live will integrated even more will Zune, PC. PS3 network will stay the same with no surprise.

  MGS4 will get beat bothin sale and popularity by Halo 3 and Smash Bros Brawl, as the latter two will focus on multiplayer and help spread the words for the consoles they are on.

  Nintendo Theory : OLD bottle & NEW wine

  Nintendo actually came up with a lot of new ideas, they are still one of the innovators in the game industry. However, they keep using their OLD characters their NEW ideas, for example: DONKEY KONG Jungle Beat, MARIO kart, ZELDA four swords adventure, DONKEY KONGa, LUIGI's mansion, paper MARIO, WARIOware. You don't see these game ideas before they were released, like Mario Kart on SNES I believe was the first kart racing style game.

  They could easily replace those characters with some new ones, then that would be a totally new franchise in people's eyes. But they didn't. They rather used their old ones - which makes people think all games Mario are something from the past, even when Mario Party or Mario Pinball first released. I understand why they keep using those old characters, I mean, why use some unknown characters when you have some popular ones in your hand? They make a lot of money by making "MARIO" golf than some "new character" golf. However, while they are making money now, their characters are getting old. They really need to make some new characters to refresh a bit. New idea will still look old to people when you keep on using old characters. They need to plan for the future before everyone is sick of their characters.

  A lot of companies that seems to have a lot of new franchise are actually using the same game idea, take just one of many examples, remember those extremely sports games that were very popular couple years ago? Most of them play the same with similar mechanic. However, by getting a different spokeperson for your game like Tony Hawk, Dave Mirra, or just come up with a new name like Aggressive Inline, and you know what? All of them are NEW, different and valuable franchise back in the days in people's mind.
