The mighty FPS genre...
It was a long time back when I first saw an FPS game...half-life 2. I saw it on TV, in a show called Gamer TV. I was totally fascinated by the game, the way it puts you in the shoes of a virtual character, allowing you to see the world from his eyes. The same thing still fascinates me.
The Genre has highly developed though. The earlier games had almost no movement when the player turns head or strafes. But now, the animations really give you a feeling as if the game world is real. The drag movement of the weapon, the blur effect and many more have contributed to added realism.
The way a character develops have been changed also. Earlier, the advancement of skills of a gamer in a game was awarded with only superior weapons, whereas now, games have come that allows you to inject a serum and gain new abilities. Bioshock, In my opinion, was amongst the first games that successfully implemented the elements of added realism. The dynamic environment, the ability to upgrade the powers and weapons and all lead to a very different feel. The latest act in the enhanced realism was seen in Far Cry 2. Well, I was under no circumstances convinced that this game is the sequel to far cry. But, still the game well designed and beautifully decorated. I frankly didn't liked the game. The points of disapointment came from long journeys, jamming weapons and enemies at very predictable sites. Crysis was a great game, followed good ol' gun n run action. In my opinion, keep the storyline aside, the game was alomst a far cry sequel. The same binocular tracing enemies, vehicles, same forest type theme...yes, almost same. Then there was a franchisee, Brothers in Arms. a very bright game. More like a fast paced tactical game. Suppress, flank, kill. I like the game, especially that battlefield view feature. Commanding fellow soldiers was always fun. Call of duty was another game based on war. I liked it, the first one the most. The weapons and feel of being in a war was very real. Downing enemies and fighting for victory was just great feel.
The FPS is a mighty genere and an FPS tittle is always very obvious in any gamer's collection.
