Ringing in the New Year with a finished game: Walking Dead! I gave it a 6.5, there were so many visual inconsistencies, I thought I was playing AC 3 again, maybe not that bad, but still, that plus the wonky controls, at times, and the very short gameplay, I just couldn't give it a higher score. This queue is smaller than I'd like, but I start a new one each year:

Other recently reviewed games, Dead Space 2, Charlie Brown, Dead Space. The queue:

  • Fallout 3
  • Fallout: New Vegas
  • Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare Pack
  • Uncharted
  • Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Game of the Year Edition
  • Uncharted 3
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Demon's Souls
  • Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition
  • Dragon Age II
  • Mortal Kombat
  • Demon Souls
  • Metal Gear Solid HD Collection
  • Dance Central 2
  • Just Dance 3
  • Driver San Francisco
  • Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors
  • Dark Souls
  • Saints Row the Third
  • Bioshock 2
  • Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters
  • Transformers: Dark of the Moon
  • Resident Evil Revelations
  • Castelvania: Lords of Shadow
  • Catherine
  • Binary Domain
  • Mass Effect 3
  • Ninja Gaiden 3
  • Resident Evil Racoon City
  • Silent Hill Downpour
  • Penguins of Madagascar DS
  • Red Faction Armegeddon
  • Spiderman Edge of Time

I'm playing Bioshock 2 right now, really stuck as splicers keep coming after me as this kid is harvesting ADAM. Making me crazy. I should be getting the next Metal Gear game in about 10 days, can't wait!

Keep Calm and Game On.

I think your opinion of the walking dead is quite fair. I've watched a decent amount of game play for that title and i thought it looked kind of mehh.

@Deyakk glad someone agrees with me!  I expected pitchforks!

On another note, regarding Bioshock 2.  Yes I know what you mean about it seeming "harder" than the first.  You need to set up your area ready to trap the splicers when the little girl is extracting ADAM.  That way you can crowd control a lot more.

I found Bioshock 2 a bit "bland" TBH.  I enjoyed it because it is a well crafted game, and the universe is pretty engaging, but I got a real deja vu about it that wasn't good.

@wavey_gravey I love all the audio diaries and such, but it does feel very, I've been there before...and the fact that I'm a Big Daddy should make it easier, but it doesn't.

I have still to play The Walking Dead, my backlog is reaching your proportions (Stupid Minecraft).  Currently I am playing Far Cry 3 and just started Resident Evil 6 in co-op with my friend last night.  I also have Skyrim and KOA on the go, with Blops 2, Halo 4 & Gears 3 as occasional MP games when I get pestered.  I really need to finish some games off so that I can in good conscience play Darksiders 2 or The Witcher 2 or Dragon's Dogma.  *sigh*  So many games.

@wavey_gravey is it okay for you to say 'stupid Minecraft' after you've sunk so many hours into it?  I want Far Cry 3, but won't buy it just yet...need to finish some other games, you know?  You have so many games open, I only allow myself to open/play/complete one game at a time, minus Rocksmith, which is progression based.

That's some large backlog right there. Chances are you'll like Binary Domain, it's one of the few shooters from this day and age with a good, story-driven single player campaign. Shame the co-op dosen't feature the characters from it though. Oh and good luck with Catherine. :P This one should be interesting. ^.^

As for the Walking Dead, that's still one for me to try, I'll probably pick it up a bit later this year. :P

@Alchemist3001 I've heard great things about it, just haven't had time to pull it from the queue!  I have a plan once I get through the sequels, we'll see if time is on my side ;)

I got it at a good price, given the glitches I dealt with, I'd say DL it if you find it on sale.

Glad to see you're playing Bioshock 2!  .....I have yet to even start it, if I weren't so busy trying to "finish finish" the original game.  :P

@Asagea_888 I'm enjoying it for the most part, it feels a lot harder for some reason...you're citing a reason I never try to get 'everything' in a game - I don't want it to be a chore!

I obviously enjoyed the Walking Dead more than you did, but I've always highly valued story in games.

Also... my backlog laughs at your backlog!

@johnsteed7 did you not deal with the glitches?   that really broke the flow of the story for me.

ha, niice ;)

@pokecharm The boxed copy of the Walking Dead is supposedly much buggier than the downloaded version. I downloaded the episodes, so I probably had a smoother experience than you did.

@wavey_gravey  @pokecharm I can only guess that game is designed to run off the hard drive and not a disc. Only Telltale knows the actual reason why the disc copy is so buggy.

Nice list:). Kinda looks familiar to mine in a bunch of ways...mine just seems to get longer every year though :/

Was the story in the Walking Dead any good? All the reviewers have been gushing over it, but i'm naturally skeptical so i don;t know whether they're just overexaggerating it.

@Katzenbalger it was good, yes, but I'm not sure it outpaced the hype that it received.  I wonder if that's part of why I downgraded it, minus the constant glitches I dealt with...after hammering AC3 for glitches, I couldn't let TWD get away with it.

Still have to buy episode two of TWD. As well as finish season two of the tv series on Netflix. Something about The Walking Dead leaves it on the backburner for me. It's pretty overrated imo.

@dylan417  it's good, but it isn't so...amazing that I couldn't put it down.  Sadly, I was just glad it was done when it was.

I'm working on my back log too.  I bought the mass effect trilogy.  I don't know if I'll get through it.  The first is a bad RPG/bad third person shooter set in an interesting universe with some interesting characters.

I've heard the second one is a good third person shooter set in an interesting universe with fewer interesting characters.

And the third is the same as the second with a "terrible ending" whatever that means.

The problem is, I don't like shooters.  I was hoping that the RPG side of it would over-take the shooter side, but I didn't realize that as an RPG it is awful.  Weapon selection is wide in names and numbers but very narrow in actual differences.  Leveling makes almost no difference.  Abilities are clunky and not all that useful.  Dang it.

In terms of your list, Dragon Age:Origins is my favorite.  Then again, I know you aren't all that into RPGs, so you may want to ease your way into the genre a little before jumping into that one.

Dragon Age: Origins is my favorite game of this generation, by a very wide margin.

@auron11022 I still scratch my head at the Dragon Age/ME games on my list...that one is a long way down on my list of games to get to...

@auron11022 We've had all of the Mass Effect games sitting on a shelf for a longtime and I have yet to play them either :/

You can't go wrong with Metal Gear and I remember when my PS3 was working had encountered that annoying spot in Bioshock 2.

@iowastate is that a glitch?  interesting...I just need to reload and start again, though I don't want to...
