After reading through the reviews, both 'professional' and 'user' I had decided not to get this game. A couple of days ago I was at my local Gamestop when I saw that they had a used one for sale...which in itself is surprising as the couple of 'new' copies they had were hiding behind the counter. Anyhow, since Gamestop allows you to return a used game no questions asked within 7 days, I decided to give it a try as I was in the mood for a mindless hack and slash. To make a long story a bit shorter, I found the game to be surprisingly fun. The game is fairly easy to play (8 out of 10) and is generally nice to look at (again 8 out of 10). When I say nice to look at, I'm not referring to the scantily clad heroine either. The environments are very colorful and bright and the animations are smooth. Having completed the first 3 levels, I have to say that it was enjoyable and I'm thinking I won't be taking this one back. Would I pay $60 for it? Probably not...but then again, I didn't have to. All in all a decent game worth playing if you like the genre.
By the way, I gave it a 10 just because I can't believe all the bad scores it's getting. I have to wonder if any of these people actually played it or if they were just offended and maybe even jealous of the main character's design. Granted, the makers were trying to market to young teenage boys, but even with clothes on Ayumi, this game would be worth trying out.

X-Blades has a lot of greatness to it , but it falls just a little short of that mark.

Sure, X-Blades is a little rough around it's edges, but what game isn't?

Nothing unique but playable until you get bored.

Although it feels like an unfinished game and lacking polish, this game, weirdly, I wouldn't consider the worst ever.

In this case you can judge a book by its cover.
